Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a planned, exciting and relevant learning environment in which all participants are welcomed and valued, as part of a christian ethos.
Ponsbourne St. Mary's is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled school, which was founded in 1847. We celebrated our 150th birthday in 1997 with many former staff, pupils and friends of the school.
The original buildings remain with remarkably few alterations, except for the addition of our new classroom. The schoolhouse has now been adopted for educational purposes and is used mainly for offices, the library and additional teaching areas.
There are strong links with the church since we are a Voluntary Controlled School. Reverend Theresa, who is in charge of the local five parishes and is a regular visitor to the school takes weekly assemblies in the church on a Monday morning.
Teachers and children attend church every Monday morning. Church Communion is held every term. Children have the opportunity to Communion or receive a blessing from Reverend Theresa Musiwacho.
We currently have 103 children in 4 classes.
There is a unique family atmosphere at the school. Parents are encouraged to become fully involved in their children's education to support the school by assisting the class teachers in a wide variety of ways. These include the hearing of reading, computing skills, artwork, sewing, cooker, accompanying children on school visits and a host of other areas.
The school continues to benefit from the proximity of Cuffley Camp and Tolmers Camp but additionally, organises more distant excursions for Years 5 and 6, such as to the Kingswood Educational Centres, PGL centres, of which there are a number around the country and most recently, a trip to York.
We are committed to safeguarding children and all staff will have been through an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check. Any volunteers will have to go through this process to work in this school.
